I find Fiona Apple to be among the best modern interpreters singing today. Note: I did not say anything about covers. What she does is different than a casual cover. She always appears to be inhabiting the song she sings, whether its one of her own or one on borrow. I especially love her shout out at the end of this performance to Paul McCartney on his 70th birthday.
